TecMate TM-151 OptiMate 3+ 0.6Amp Desulfating Charger/Maintainer Feature

  • 24/7 automatic storage control
  • Effective battery test and maintenance
  • Proven reliability and ease of use
  • Optimizes battery power and life

OptiMate3+ is the all-in-one tool for 12V battery care at home. It diagnoses, recovers, charges, tests and maintains your batteries automatically. OptiMate 3+ retains all the fully automatic, 100% safe, easy-to-use characteristics of the 1.5 million OptiMates produced since 1995, but now with a stylish new splashproof enclosure with wall mounts and an easy-to-read LED information panel.

If you forgot to hook up your battery during the off season, OptiMate 3+ will recover it from deep discharge and fully recharge it. Then it checks that the charge is good and tests how well it is retained by the battery. The OptiMate 3+ will then maintain your battery at full charge for months at a time and prolong its life by up to 400%, reducing waste for a greener environment. No wonder 10 major constructors recommend OptiMate.

An all-in-one tool for 12V battery charging and maintenance

How It Works

  • Safety check: OptiMate 3+ will only activate if connected to a battery that has at least 2V of charge.
  • Desulfation and recovery: if the battery’s resistance is abnormally high due to sulfation, a voltage of up to 20V is automatically applied to overcome this to recover very fl at or neglected batteries (disconnected from the vehicle) until they are able to accept the normal charge program.
  • Bulk charge: a constant current of 0.6A brings the battery close to full charge.
  • Charge verification: as soon as the rising resistance causes the charge voltage to reach 14.3V, the voltage is limited at 13.6V for 30 minutes while the circuit monitors the actual voltage and the current absorbed by the battery. If within 30 minutes the achieved charge is less than optimal, the program goes back to bulk charge and the process repeats.
  • Charge retention test: when the charger confirms that an optimal charge has been achieved, the first check for battery (and connected system) power leakage begins. Depending on the voltage retained during 30 minutes, an “OK” (green LED) or “not OK” (red LED) test result is displayed. These 30 minute test periods repeat hourly until the OptiMate 3+ is disconnected, so that the battery status indication is continually updated.
  • Charge maintenance: during alternate 30 minute periods, at a float limit of 13.6V the battery is offered charge current (up to the maximum) it needs to sustain it against any small connected loads or power leakage and against natural self-discharge.

OptiMate 3+ can stay connected to the battery indefinitely and the battery will be safe and 100% charged. (Standard filler cap batteries need their liquid level checked regularly during long term connection.)

OptiMate 3 desulfater-charger saves neglected, deep discharged batteries other smart chargers can't. It will safely maintain your vehicle's battery during long term storage. Hook up the battery and OptiMate immediately checks if the battery is sulfated or not. If it is OptiMate applies 'first aid' in the form of a voltage of up to 22 volt at low current for up to 2 hours, to recover the battery so it can again accept a charge. It then 'bulk' (constant current) charges the battery, the starting stage if no sulfation was detected. There-after the unique ‘verification' (pulsing charge and check) stage provides low voltage desulfating care and tops off the charge. OptiMate 3+ then tests and confirms if the battery can retain sufficient charge to crank an engine before it engages long term maintenance mode. During maintenance it "floats and tests" 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off, so the battery is always 100 per cent ready, but never overcharged. Recommended for all 12 volt lead-acid batteries from 2Ah to 30Ah, although it can also maintain larger batteries (it will just take longer to charge). The OptiMate's high voltage desulfation mode cannot engage if vehicle electronics / wiring are sensed, so to effectively desulfate a battery, it must be disconnected from the vehicle wiring. Includes 2 connection accessories : SAE-71 Weatherproof permanent ringlet connector and SAE-74 set of battery clips. Approved to UL and CSA safety standards for battery chargers.
